Six shot dead in Mosque attack

Gunmen killed six people after opening fire inside a mosque during prayers in a remote village in Pakistan.

Police said the attack during evening prayers last night was linked to an old feud between two tribal clans.

At least three assailants wielding AK-47 assault rifles stormed the mosque in Zehri village in the south west of the country, killing five worshippers and the mosque's imam.

Pervez Zahoor, area police chief. said the attackers apparently targeted the five men, who were from a rival clan of the Zehri tribe.

"The two clans have an old feud," Zahoor said.

Tribal and family feuds are common in Pakistan's deeply conservative rural and tribal regions. Many involve disputes over ownership of land. Some feuds last for generations, claiming scores of lives.

Zehri is about 230 miles south of Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province.
