North Korea a step closer to sanctions
The US, Britain and France overcame last-minute differences with Russia and China on a UN resolution imposing punishing sanctions on North Korea, and the Security Council was expected to approve it unanimously tonight.
"We are very pleased at this outcome and look forward to the council's imminent adoption of the resolution, co-sponsored by all 15 council members," US Ambassador John Bolton told reporters after a brief closed council meeting.
