South Africa’s national zoo has agreed to return four smuggled lowland gorilla infants to Cameroon, ending two years of dispute with animal rights groups who argued relocating the animals in South Africa violated international conservation accords.

South Africa’s national zoo has agreed to return four smuggled lowland gorilla infants to Cameroon, ending two years of dispute with animal rights groups who argued relocating the animals in South Africa violated international conservation accords.

The zoo announced it would return the gorillas to Cameroon soon. The gorillas were confiscated in Malaysia in 2004 after they were smuggled into that country from Nigeria.
