An explosives-rigged bicycle detonated near an army recruiting centre in a city south of Baghdad today, killing at least 12 people and wounding 28, police said.

The bomb detonated in central Hillah, about 60 miles south of Baghdad at about 8am local time as volunteers gathered to join the army, said police Lt. Osama Ahmed.
