11 suspected Taliban killed in Nato airstrike

A Nato airstrike killed 11 suspected Taliban militants hiding in a southern Afghan compound, an alliance spokesman said today.

The strike occurred in the Zhari district of southern Kandahar province late yesterday, said Nato spokesman Maj. Scott Lundy.

Some 15 suspected militants were preparing an ambush on the main highway in the area, but fled into the compound after realising they were being watched, Lundy said.

It was unclear what happened to the other four militants.
