10 killed as illegal immigrants' boat sinks

A boat carrying 120 illegal immigrants bound for Italy sank just south of the Sicilian island of Lampedusa, killing at least 10 people, Italian news agencies said today.

An Italian ship, the Minerva, spotted the boat before dawn today about six miles south of Lampedusa, shortly after which the boat began to sink, the Ansa news agency reported.
