Annan calls for end to fighting in Lebanon

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan today called for an immediate halt to violence between Israel and Hezbollah as he condemned a deadly Israeli airstrike that killed at least 54 people in southern Lebanon early today.

he told an emergency meeting of the UN in New York he was “deeply disturbed” that his previous calls for a ceasefire had gone unheeded.
