US authorities indict Briton on 'terror sites' charge
A British man has been indicted on terrorism charges today for allegedly helping run internet sites that US authorities say raised money for terrorism.
Syed Talha Ahsan was arrested at his London home on a federal indictment in Connecticut charging him with conspiracy to support terrorists and conspiracy to kill or injure people abroad.
The indictment came out of Connecticut because authorities say an internet service provider in the state was used.
Ahsan is accused in the same case as Babar Ahmad, a British computer specialist who was indicted in Connecticut in October 2004.
Both are accused of running several websites which investigators say were used to recruit members for the al-Qaida network, Afghanistan’s ousted Taliban regime and Chechen rebels.
