Tsunami warning after 7.2 quake strikes off Indonesia
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 triggered a tsunami warning today on Indonesia's Java Island and Australia’s Christmas Island, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
The earthquake, which hit at 3.24pm (9.24am Irish time) caused tall buildings to sway in the Indonesian capital Jakarta and at least one other city on Java Island for at least two minutes, witnesses said.
There were no immediate reports of damage on Java island.
The tsunami warning centre did not give the depth of the quake.
