Man trampled in sixth run of Pamplona bull festival

The sixth bull run at the annual Pamplona festival in Spain ended today with dozens of people battered and bruised and one man trampled after tripping in front of a pack of bulls. No one was gored.

One Spaniard from Pamplona was admitted to hospital after the quick run, which lasted two minutes and 30 seconds.

He had head and back injuries and had trouble breathing, said Jose Mari Colomo from the Pamplona international press department.

He was expected to be released from hospital during the day, Colomo added. He also said that dozens of runners were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Renowned for its all-night street parties, the festival in the northern Spanish city dates back to the late 16th century.

It gained worldwide fame in Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises.

Since record-keeping began in 1924, 13 people have been killed during the runs.
