Israeli forces invade Gaza towns after bloody clashes

Israeli forces renewed airstrikes at armed Palestinians in northern Gaza early today after a bloody day of clashes in which militants with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades faced Israeli tanks and attack helicopters.

Twenty-four Palestinians and one Israeli soldier were killed yesterday in the biggest battle in Gaza since Israel withdrew from the coastal strip last summer.
