Several hurt as car slams into 'fan mile' barrier

A number of people were injured today when a car drove into a barrier blocking off Berlin’s Fan Mile – the main World Cup public viewing area in the capital, a police spokeswoman said.

There was no immediate information on the number hurt or the type of injuries they sustained, said Claudia Frank, a spokeswoman for Berlin police.

Emergency vehicles were sent to the area, which stretches down from the Brandenburg Gate in the heart of the city.
