Italian premier Romano Prodi’s center-left government today won a confidence vote in the Senate which was tied to a decree that would delay the coming into force of a package of laws approved by the previous government.

Italian premier Romano Prodi’s center-left government today won a confidence vote in the Senate which was tied to a decree that would delay the coming into force of a package of laws approved by the previous government.

The decree, which was voted on in parliament’s upper house in Rome, gives the administration more time to implement laws and reforms regarding education, environment and public works.
