Iraqi forces to take over control of southern province

Iraqi prime minister Nouri Maliki today confirmed that Government forces are to take over security next month in the southern province of Muthanna, news reports said.

At present, British forces there oversee a multi-national contingent which includes Australian and Japanese troops.
