A parked car bomb struck an Iraqi army convoy today, killing five people and wounding nine.

The explosion occurred at 10am local time on Mustansiriyah Square in eastern Baghdad, said Lt. Ahmed Muhammad Ali. He said three soldiers and two civilians were killed and nine passers-by were wounded.

Gunmen also killed an electrical worker identified as Saadoun Abdul-Hussein Radi, a former member of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party, in Amarah, 180 miles south-east of Baghdad, said Capt. Raad Mussa.
