Politicians approve Somali peacekeeping plan
Somali MPs today approved a peacekeeping mission for Somalia, the parliament speaker said.
Speaker Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden said that 198 members voted in favour of a plan by President Abdullahi Yusuf’s government to bring in peacekeepers from Uganda and Sudan.
The vote took place after three days of debate in the parliament, which is located in the southern town of Baidoa, 155 miles northwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
The Cabinet approved the plan on May 21.
