US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld today said the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was an event of “enormous importance” for the fight against terror in Iraq and around the world, but would not halt violence in the country.

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld today said the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was an event of “enormous importance” for the fight against terror in Iraq and around the world, but would not halt violence in the country.

“Arguably, over the last several years, no single person on this planet has had the blood of more innocent men, women and children on his hands than Zarqawi, who personified the dark, sadistic medieval vision of the future,” Rumsfeld told a Brussels news conference at a Nato meeting.
