Iraqi PM announces candidates for key ministries

Iraqi prime minister Nouri Maliki today asked parliament to approve his candidates for the ministries of defence, interior and national security in an effort to end a 20-day impasse.

Maliki has been unable to break a stalemate over the posts since May 20, when his cabinet was sworn in.
