A magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea, the US Geological survey said today. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake hit at 1.12pm (3.12 Irish time) around 189 kilometers northeast of Papua New Guinea’s New Britain region.

The quake posed no risk of a Pacific-wide tsunami, said Barry Hirshorn, a geophysicist at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center at Ewa Beach, Hawaii.
