The US must “eradicate” torture of detainees by its personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq and investigate allegations thoroughly, prosecuting any staff found guilty, according to a draft of a report by a UN panel in Geneva.

“The state party should take firm measures to eradicate all forms of torture and ill treatment of detainees by its law enforcement personnel, civil or military, in Afghanistan and Iraq,” the 15-page report by the UN Committee Against Torture said.
