Tamil Tiger rebels attacked a government defence line in northern Sri Lanka today, killing an army officer and a soldier.

Tamil Tiger rebels attacked a government defence line in northern Sri Lanka today, killing an army officer and a soldier.

The attack took place in the Maruthamadu area of Vavuniya district, the army said.

Vavuniya is 130 miles north of the capital, Colombo and the last garrison town before rebel-held territory.
