Romano Prodi became premier today, forming Italy’s 61st post-war government more than a month after his center-left coalition narrowly won parliamentary elections, Italian news agencies said.

Romano Prodi became premier today, forming Italy’s 61st post-war government more than a month after his center-left coalition narrowly won parliamentary elections, Italian news agencies said.

Prodi, who had received the mandate to form a government last night, submitted his Cabinet list to President Giorgio Napolitano, the head of state.
