A suicide car bomb exploded near a UN convoy in southern Afghanistan today, killing the attacker, but there were no immediate reports of other casualties.

The attack occurred in Kandahar city, a former Taliban stronghold, as the convoy was travelling to a nearby US-led coalition base, said Thor Yali, a police officer at the scene of the attack.
