Swedish TV producers missing after Safari
Two female television producers from Sweden’s public broadcaster SVT are missing after failing to return from a safari to the Kalahari desert in Botswana, the network said today.
Helene Astrom and Jenny Soderqvist, who are in Botswana to help transform the country’s state television to a public service broadcaster, were last heard from on Saturday when they told colleagues they were driving to the Kutse Game Reserve, a national park covering around 2,000 square miles of desert and savannahs, SVT spokeswoman Helga Baagoe said.
Baagoe said the two women, who are both in their 30s, were supposed to return on Monday night, but are yet to be heard from.
“When they did not come back, we became really worried,” she said.
“The park is very, very big, and we have no idea exactly where they have been.”
Both SVT and the Swedish embassy in Botswana has contacted local police and military for help in searching for the two women, but there has been no sign of them or their rented vehicle, Baagoe said.
