Six rescued from Austrian avalanche
An avalanche buried at least six people – five schoolchildren and a teacher - in the Austrian province of Salzburg today, an official said.
They were rescued alive, but all were taken to hospital.
Four sustained serious injuries, said Gerhard Huber, commander of the Red Cross who was involved the rescue effort.
Huber said it was possible that additional people may have been buried by the avalanche, but were able to free themselves.
The injured were part of a school group from Vienna, the Austria Press Agency reported.
