Ten people were killed as a chairlift broke, sending passengers falling into a deep ravine in a remote town in northwestern Pakistan today, police said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident in Battagram, about 150 miles northeast of Peshawar.

“So far we only know that a chairlift used to connect to mountain villages fell into a very deep ravine, and all 10 people aboard died,” local police chief Iqbal Khan said.
