Six people were killed during a raid before dawn today as American troops hunted down an al-Qaida suspect at a safehouse south of Baghdad, the US military said.

US forces stormed the house in Youssifiyah, 12 miles south of Baghdad. Those inside started shooting, and the troops fired back, a US statement said.
