A small plane crashed in the French Alps, killing the pilot and the only passenger, officials said today.

The French-registered aircraft took off from the Alpine town of Gap, and was headed to Cannes, on the French Riviera, when it went down in bad weather yesterday.

Rescue workers found the wreckage yesterday evening at the bottom of a ravine near the town of Uvernet-Fours in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region.

The body of the pilot and the passenger were trapped in the cockpit.

The names of the victims have not yet been released, though officials said both lived in France’s Alpes-Maritimes region.
