Aid plan for farmers affected by bird flu outbreaks

The European Commission today presented a plan that would pay up to 50% of national subsidies to European poultry farmers hit by the spread of bird flu.

The EU aid can only be implemented if member governments and the European Parliament approve a change in EU rules.
