Counterfeit medicines are on the rise in Europe, with an increasing number of fake drugs being sold over the internet, the EU executive warned today.

The European Commission said that according to a recent survey conducted by the EU member states, 170 fake medicines were identified as being distributed illegally, mostly through websites offering fake or unauthorised lifestyle drugs, growth hormones and sleeping drugs.
