The British budget, announced in the House of Commons this afternoon by Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, has targeted the old reliables.

From tomorrow, a packet of cigarettes will cost an extra nine pence, a bottle of wine is also going up, by four pence, while a penny has been put on the price of a pint.
