A cargo ship sank after colliding with another vessel in Estonian waters early today, but the crew of 14 was evacuated safely to a Russian icebreaker.

The ships were part of a convoy that had left the Russian port of St Petersburg when the accident happened, Estonia’s maritime border guard said.

One of the ships involved in the collision sank, while the other sustained minor damage.

The convoy turned around and was to return to St. Petersburg.
