Police swung batons to disperse about 1,000 anti-U.S. protesters today near Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, just hours before the American president was due to arrive.

Some of the demonstrators chanted “Killer go back!” and “Death to America!” on a major thoroughfare in the city of Rawalpindi about four miles from where US President George Bush’s plane was expected to land.
