A grey heron found dead in a suburb of Slovenia’s northeastern city of Maribor was infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu, the Agriculture Ministry said today.

A grey heron found dead in a suburb of Slovenia’s northeastern city of Maribor was infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu, the Agriculture Ministry said today.

It was Slovenia’s second H5N1 case. Earlier a dead swan – also found near Maribor, nine miles from the Austrian border – tested positive for the deadly strain of the bird flu.
