North Korea vows to strengthen military deterrent

North Korea today said tensions on the Korean Peninsula were rising and it could not help but strengthen its military deterrent force.

A spokesman for the North’s Foreign Ministry made the statement, disputing a recent agreement between the United States and South Korea to give American forces in the South greater flexibility in where they deploy, according to the North’s official Korean Central News Agency.
