Berlusconi in defamation investigation

A prosecutor has placed Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi under investigation for defamation after remarks on television alleging a co-operative business organisation had links to organised crime, Italian news agencies said today.

The prosecutor acted following a formal complaint by the president of the League of Co-operatives, the reports said.
