A crew of Colombian drug dealers turned purebred puppies into drug couriers by surgically implanting them with packets of liquid heroin, according to US authorities.

Ten puppies were rescued during a 2005 raid on a farm in Colombia, the Drug Enforcement Administration said yesterday in announcing recent arrests in the two-year investigation.
