Smoke spotted at EU headquarters
Firefighters rushed to European Union headquarters in Brussels today after reports of smoke coming from a staff restaurant, officials said.
Fire crews were joined by two ambulances and police at the Berlaymont building in Brussels after security at the building called for help to trace smoke in or around the first-level restaurant at the European Commission.
Firefighters were also looking at a subway station beside the EU building.
Security officials said no one was being evacuated from the building, which is home to 2,700 bureaucrats and the 25-member EU executive.
