Chirac reaffirms need for French nuclear deterrent

France would respond firmly, possibly with non-conventional weapons, to any state-sponsored terror attack against it, President Jacques Chirac said today in a speech reaffirming the need for the French nuclear deterrent.

Chirac said France’s nuclear strike force is “not aimed at dissuading fanatic terrorists”.
