Demonstrators hurled rocks and logs at the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France, today, smashing several windows as they protested against plans to liberalise port services across the European Union.

Demonstrators hurled rocks and logs at the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France, today, smashing several windows as they protested against plans to liberalise port services across the European Union.

Labour action and strikes also slowed cargo handling at several French ports.

Police used water cannons and tear gas to try to keep the thousands of demonstrators at bay but they still managed to attack the front of the ornate building.
