Suicide bomber strikes in Jenin

A Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up today as Israeli troops conducted an arrest raid in the West Bank town of Jenin, Israeli military officials said.

No one was injured in the blast other than the bomber, the military said.

The explosion came as troops surrounded a house in Jenin searching for Palestinian militant leaders.

Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen exchanged fire during the raid at several points in the city, but no injuries were reported, witnesses and the army said.

The Islamic Jihad militant group said two activists wanted by the army were hiding in the building.

The army said it was pursuing wanted Islamic Jihad men in the town.
