A natural gas explosion tore through a four-storey apartment building in north-eastern Spain today, killing two people and injuring 15.

A natural gas explosion tore through a four-storey apartment building in north-eastern Spain today, killing two people and injuring 15.

The blast occurred while workers were trying to fix a gas leak in the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, said a statement from the regional government.

One of the workers was killed, and a resident of the building also died. Three of the 15 people wounded were in serious condition.

The explosion destroyed much of the building, which had been evacuated, and damaged a second building.
