UN warns bird flu could become widespread in Turkey

A UN agriculture agency warned today that the H5N1 bird flu virus could become widespread in Turkey and poses serious risk to neighbouring countries.

“The virus may be spreading despite the control measures already taken,” Juan Lubroth, senior animal health officer at the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, said in a statement.
