Israeli elections to go ahead in March

Israeli elections will be held as scheduled on March 28 despite Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s grave illness, Attorney General Meni Mazuz said today.

“At the cabinet meeting, the attorney general emphasised that the dissolution of parliament and the early elections remain as is and are not affected by the prime minister’s health condition,” the Justice Ministry said in a statement.

Sharon asked in November for the president to dissolve parliament and to hold an early election.
