Heavy snow cuts off Kashmir valley from rest of India

The Himalayan region of Kashmir remained cut off from the rest of India for a second day today as heavy snowfall triggered avalanches, blocking roads and killing at least one villager.

Ghulam Rasool, 75, was killed when a temporary shelter collapsed under the snow in the quake-battered Balkote village, said divisional commissioner Basharat Dhar.
