BA jumbo turns back after engine blaze

A British Airways jumbo jet returned to New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport early today when an engine fire broke out shortly after take-off.

One of the four engines on the London-bound Boeing 747 ignited shortly after its 11pm departure yesterday, US time, said John McCarthy, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
