Tanzanian president-elect to be sworn in

Tanzania’s Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, who won a landslide victory in the country’s third election since the return of multiparty politics in 1992, will be sworn-in today as the country’s fourth head of state.

International observers have described the December 14 poll, which had nine aspirants challenging the ruling party’s 44-year hold on Tanzania’s presidency, as the best organised since the country held its first multiparty election in 30 years in 1995.
