Worshippers killed as lightning strikes church

At least 11 people were killed and several more injured when a bolt of lightning struck a church congregation in Malawi’s northern mountainous district of Mzimba, church officials said today.

Fletcher Ndhlovu, a senior member of the Church of Central African Presbytery, said the congregation had gathered to prepare for Christmas celebrations in a village 185 miles north of the capital, Lilongwe, yesterday when the tragedy happened.
