British soldier killed in road accident
A 22-year-old British soldier was killed and three others injured in Cyprus today, when a military vehicle slammed into a tree, a British official said.
The soldier from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers at the British base in Dhekelia on the island’s south-eastern coast, died at the scene, base spokesman Dennis Barns said.
Two other soldiers travelling in the army Land Rover suffered serious injuries while a third was slightly hurt in the 7am (5am Irish time) accident on a road north of the base.
