Five Islamic militant groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq, issued a joint statement today denouncing upcoming Iraqi elections as a “satanic project” that violates God’s law and vowed to continue their war to establish an Islamic government in the country.

Five Islamic militant groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq, issued a joint statement today denouncing upcoming Iraqi elections as a “satanic project” that violates God’s law and vowed to continue their war to establish an Islamic government in the country.

But the internet statement made no threats to disrupt the December 15 parliament elections, unlike in the lead-up to similar elections in January and October’s constitutional referendum, when militants warned they would attack polling stations to stop people from voting.
